Rabbi Yerachmiel Shapiro donned his chef’s apron and did the honors at the grill on August 24, 2008. The event was the brainstorm of our newly ordained Rabbi, and he passed the cooking test with flying colors! No one left hungry.
The event served a two-fold purpose. In addition to introducing Rabbi Yerachmiel to the community, Congregation Beth Shalom hosted the barbeque to benefit the residents of the Israeli town of Sderot, which has suffered greatly from terrorist attacks. Proceeds of the event were donated to Sderot.
Featured guests included Meyer Eller, a resident of Sderot, who spoke about his experiences; Lt. Colonel Guy Chernobrov, Ft. Monmouth’s Israeli Liaison Officer; and Howard Gases, Executive Director of Jewish Federation of Monmouth County. The Federation graciously lent its support to the event by advertising to its members.
LTC Chernobrov gave a slide presentation on the situation in Sderot.
On the lighter side, there were games, face-painting, and a lot of shmoozing.
