The second annual Great Red Bank Latke Festival took place at the synagogue on Saturday evening, Dec. 12, 2009 in celebration of Hanukkah. “Latkes,” Yiddish for potato pancakes, is a traditional Hanukkah dish. There is an on-going debate as to whether they are better served with sour cream or apple sauce. What’s your vote?
The event featured a dreidle (spinning top) tournament, a latke-eating contest for children, singing, dancing, dinner and games. Some brought their own menorahs and joined in a community candle lighting ceremony.
Donations of food were brought for donation to a local food bank.
As you can see in the photos, everyone from young to old had a terrific time!
