We celebrated a remarkable milestone – the 50th anniversary of Congregation Beth Shalom on May 6, 2007. A group of determined people brought hammers, nails, electric wire, and an assortment of abilities to this building and literally built a synagogue from an old house. They walked across the threshhold of 186 Maple Avenue bringing hopes and dreams, and nurtured a Jewish presence in Red Bank that has endured for over 50 years.
We also used this important occasion to celebrate the life of a special human being, Hilda Cohen, a founding member who gave 45 years of devoted service to Congregation Beth Shalom and the Sisterhood. Although she passed on in 2004, her spirit left a lasting imprint on the soul of this synagogue and everyone who knew her. In her honor, a plaque was presented to her family by Bea Graham, founding member and long-time friend.
A delectable lunch buffet was served followed by a unique performance featuring renowned author and magician, Arthur Kurzweil.
May Hashem enable us to celebrate our 100th!
