The Sisterhood of Congregation Beth Shalom has a history that reaches as far back as the Synagogue. Sisterhood’s energy and warmth encourages growth, participation – and fun!
Our former spiritual leader, Rabbi Yerachmiel Shapiro, started a remarkable rebuilding of Congregation Beth Shalom. Now with our current spiritual leader, Rabbi Dovid Harrison and his wife, Hindy, our synagogue is continuing its remarkable revitalization.
However, our congregation is not large enough to fund our increasing needs. Our building needs updating, too. That’s where the Sisterhood comes in. We are the primary fundraising arm of the Synagogue.
In the past, the Sisterhood has held rummage sales, Chinese auctions, card parties, raffles, mother-daughter dinners, casino nights, bazaars, and more.
Sisterhood provides a notecard service for members. For $3 each, you can have a card sent for get well, congratulations, sympathy, etc. To order, contact Sisterhood Vice President Gloria Langer at (609) 619-3011 or e-mail to
gg0103 [at] aol.com.
Before the High Holy Days, Sisterhood produces an annual Yizkor booklet. Members and non-members alike have the opportunity to memorialize the names of beloved family members or friends. During the Yizkor service on Yom Kippur, the names are read aloud. The booklet is used during the four yearly Yizkor services.
Our most extensive fundraiser is the annual Calendar. Volunteers are needed starting in October for ad sales. Are places you frequent potential advertisers? Remember to let our advertisers know you saw their ad in our calendar or on our website.
This year, Sisterhood ran its first Purim Basket project, which was met with enthusiasm and proved a sweet success.
More plans are in the making, so join a group of dynamic women dedicated to supporting our synagogue and the community around us. For information, please call Gloria Langer at 609-619-3011 or Sara Breslow at 732-544-0615.
